How much do you pay for a keynote speaker?
The talk of money and price for speakers and keynotes always comes into question. The thing is, there is no solid answer, only more questions.
Here we unpack how we determine the price for our speakers, how our speakers determine their value, and how they manage different requests for various engagements.

There are many factors at play that determine this:
Experience
Influence
Location
Timing
Quality of content
Style of delivery
Industry knowledge
Social Proof
Industry Recognition
Testimonials and recomendations
As a general rule of thumb, we aline with industry standards such as this.
In summary:
Newbie speakers might earn $500–$2,500 for a talk.
Beginning speakers, or those just establishing a brand with their first book, might earn $5,000–$10,000.
Authors/Industry Experts or those with several books and other forms of “social proof” might draw $10,000–$20,000.
Leaders and high-profile influencers well-known in their field, such as best-selling authors, can bring in $20,000–$35,000 per talk.
The way we operate at HypeMogul is; the final decision is left up to the speaker.
We present a custom-created quote for delivery and engagement based of the client's requests which include a price for engagement.
It's often a fast yes, hesitation, or a firm no. The answer is always to do with budget and often we won't know what the budget is until we quote above it.
If our clients start the enquiry process with their "WHY" and are impact focussed on the event we will align with values and the right speaker 99% of the time.
When the discussion is budget focussed we have to dig a little deeper to get the core values, then match the most suitable change maker.
The final decision always sits with our speakers.
In many cases, speakers have an annual allocation of impact or purpose focusses work which can convert to probono talks, and they choose how, where and who to allocate them to throughout the year.
If the cause/mission/impact aligns with the speaker's, and they may choose full probono or a part/bono engagement with some commitment to another event the following year, a referral to another client, or Publicity/PR around the involvement with the event. There needs to be an exchange for time, IP, content and opportunity for genuine storytelling and impact.
For us, we are #speakerfirst #founderfirst and will protect integrity, and authenticity and value their contribution for every engagement.
